Dr. Cox was born in Dayton, Ohio, and earned his BA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before going on to receive his MD from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.

Following his completion of both an internship and a residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Dr. Cox did a fellowship in cardiology at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dr. Cox has been married since 1985 to an Oak Ridge native. Together they have two children. In his spare time, Dr. Cox enjoys music—especially the guitar, scuba vacations, and Tennessee sports.
