Tjuan L. Overly, MD, FACC
“For me, the greatest satisfaction originates in the interpersonal relationships and trust that develop in patients for whom I provide care.” With an interest in the intellectual challenges of the field of medicine and an enjoyment for developing relationships with patients and their families, Dr. Tjuan Overly chose to pursue a career in cardiology. A native of Morehead, Kentucky, he received his BS in Chemistry, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, he went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington. Following his internship and residency, Dr. Overly completed an additional year as Chief Resident in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He further completed fellowship training in general and interventional cardiology at the renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Overly enjoys the technical advances and the rapidly evolving nature of his specialty. Many of its life-saving and life-improving procedures allow for both short and long term benefits to patients. Dr. Overly's special interests within his field include carotid and peripheral intervention, complex coronary interventions, and structural heart disease, including PFO and ASD closure, TAVR, mitral valvuloplasty and MitraClip, and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with alcohol septal ablation. Dr. Overly and his wife, Sara, a nurse practitioner, live in Knoxville. In his leisure time, Dr. Overly enjoys reading, playing basketball and tennis, traveling with his wife and cheering for University of Kentucky Wildcats. In addition, he enjoys music and is a former member of the world renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. Education
